Work with chapters and scenes

Narration: Stu McCardle

The Plan gives you two views of the same story. Start in Chapters for the big picture. Open a chapter to refine its summary and what it needs to achieve. Work from the ideas already on the page, or use the brief to explore a different structure with AI. Switch to Scene view for the smaller movements. Expand a chapter and open a scene. You can give it a clear beat, a goal, a conflict or a turn. Here I'm sharpening what Alan wants from the encounter. Drag chapters or scenes when the order needs work. The manuscript follows the chapter order too. And use Undo if a move is wrong. Both views stay connected, helping you see the book more clearly as its shape changes.

Steps
1. Open Plan and choose Chapters for the overall structure.
2. Open a chapter, edit its summary and choose Save Changes.
3. Switch to Scene view, expand a chapter and open a scene.
4. Refine its beat, goal, conflict and turn. Close the scene panel after editing.
5. Drag a chapter or scene to reorder it. Undo is available if the move is wrong.
6. Open Manuscript and Chapters to check the resulting chapter order.

Before you start
Open a book with chapters or a chapter plan. AI is available when useful for exploring structure.

Chapters and Scene view work on the same plan. Reordering chapters also changes their order in the manuscript.

Prepared teaching book and prepared AI replies. Processing waits are shortened. Captions are optional and are not burnt into the picture.
